Introduction
The Langtang Valley Trek: 10 Days is a beautiful Himalayan journey through forested valleys, traditional mountain settlements and the dramatic landscapes of the Langtang region. Located north of Kathmandu, the trek offers an accessible mountain experience without requiring a domestic flight.
The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. From here, the trail follows the Langtang River through oak, pine and rhododendron forests, crossing suspension bridges and passing small settlements on the way to Lama Hotel.
As the route climbs toward Langtang Village, the valley gradually opens and the surrounding mountains become more prominent. Stone houses, prayer wheels, mani walls and Buddhist traditions reflect the strong Tibetan cultural influence of the region.
The trail then continues to Kyanjin Gompa, a peaceful high-altitude settlement surrounded by glaciers and Himalayan peaks. An additional exploration day allows trekkers to hike to Kyanjin Ri or attempt the more demanding ascent of Tserko Ri at approximately 4,984 metres, depending on fitness, weather and trail conditions.
Trekkers may also include Sherpa Gaun as an alternative route between Syabrubesi and the upper valley. This option offers a quieter village experience and a different perspective of the Langtang landscape.
Combining mountain scenery, local culture, wildlife-rich forests and rewarding viewpoint hikes, the 10-day Langtang Valley Trek is suitable for active beginners and experienced trekkers seeking a complete Himalayan journey within a relatively short holiday.
Overview of Langtang Valley Trek: 10 Days
The Langtang Valley Trek: 10 Days combines Himalayan scenery, traditional villages and Buddhist culture within a convenient itinerary that begins and ends in Kathmandu. Unlike trekking routes that require a mountain flight, the Langtang region is reached by road through Syabrubesi.
The walking journey follows the Langtang River from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel before climbing toward Langtang Village. Lower sections pass through forested trails, suspension bridges and riverside settlements, while the upper valley gradually opens into a wider landscape surrounded by glaciers and snow-covered peaks.
From Langtang Village, the route continues to Kyanjin Gompa, the main destination of the trek. This high mountain settlement is known for its monastery, local yak-based products and close views of the Langtang Himalayas.
A full exploration day at Kyanjin Gompa allows trekkers to hike to Kyanjin Ri or attempt the longer and more demanding climb to Tserko Ri at approximately 4,984 metres. The most suitable hike depends on fitness, acclimatisation, weather and trail conditions.
The standard route returns through Lama Hotel and Syabrubesi. Travellers may also choose an alternative trail through Sherpa Gaun, depending on the final itinerary and local conditions. This option provides a quieter village route and additional variety instead of following exactly the same path.
The trek is rated moderate to challenging. It does not involve technical climbing, but trekkers should be prepared for consecutive walking days, significant uphill and downhill sections, changing weather and high-altitude hiking around Kyanjin Gompa.

★★★★★Sarah Mitchell · United Kingdom · October 2024“Standing at Base Camp, looking up at the Khumbu Icefall, I realised this was not just a trek — it was the experience that divided my life into before and after. Tenzing and the TrekTrove team made every step feel safe, purposeful, and genuinely extraordinary. I have trekked in five countries. This was something else entirely.”

★★★★★Rajesh Karmacharya · Nepal · November 2024“As a Nepali who grew up in Pokhara, I thought I knew these mountains intimately. TrekTrove showed me corners of my own country I had never visited, connected me with communities I did not know existed, and gave me a new appreciation for the Himalayas I call home. The guides are extraordinary people.”

★★★★★Emma and Daniel Kowalski · Poland · July 2024“Lo Manthang at dawn, with the entire walled city quiet except for the sound of monks chanting in Thubchen Gompa. Nothing prepares you for that moment. Nothing we write here does it justice. We came as tourists and left as people who understood, at least a little, why the kingdom kept itself hidden for so long. TrekTrove — thank you for making this possible.”
